Your truck should have a preventative maintenance service every 3 month or 6,000* miles whichever occurs first.

Proper maintenance of your vehicle will not only help it last longer, but will help prevent possible breakdowns and downtime. It also helps to satisfy FMCSA:396.3

You should get your oil changed every 6,000 miles or as recommended in your vehicle’s owner’s manual. (as part of a P.M. Service)

The Federal Highway Administration requires all commercial motor vehicles with a GVW of 10,000 lbs. or more to have an annual Safety Inspection every twelve months. FMSCA:396.17

There are many sensors and computerized components that manage your vehicle’s engine performance and emissions. When one of these fails, the “check engine” light is illuminated. Although your vehicle may seem to run fine, it is important to have the issue addressed to prevent long-term problems.

This is a very serious problem – if your engine overheats for too long, you can damage your engine. As soon as possible, find a safe place to pull off the road and shut the engine off! Do not attempt to check the fluid level in the radiator as it can burn you. The best thing to do is have your vehicle towed to a repair shop.

In the state of New Jersey, Every time you renew your vehicle’s registration you will need to have an opacity test done. Every diesel powered CMV with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating over 18,000 pounds (manufactures build weight, not registered weight) Must have an opacity test within 90 days of the registration renewal month. (renewal month counts as the first 30 days)

Milky brown engine oil is an indication of coolant in the oil. (This can be caused by a blown head gasket, cracked cylinder head, a failed transmission cooler, failed oil cooler, or cracked casings. This condition is very serious and needs to be checked by a professional technician quickly.

Battery cables and terminals should also be cleaned and inspected to make sure they provide a good electrical connection.

When the “ABS” light comes on it means that the onboard ABS computer has detected a problem in the system. When the light is on the ABS system becomes inoperable and should be check by a qualified technician as soon as possible.

We recommend replacing fuel filters when you have a Preventative Maintenance service done. Fuel filters should also be replaced prior to colder weather.
